ASF vaccination so far

BAI approved the commercial sale of AVAC ASF LIVE, the first ASF vaccine for fattening pigs cleared for public sale. DA announced it on 2 September 2026; the approval date isn't given.

BAI Director Christian Daquigan said DA had released 400,000 of the 500,000 doses set aside for controlled use, and that six suppliers from the US, Vietnam, South Korea and Thailand had applied for registration. Reported on 7 and 8 May 2026; the interview date isn't given.

DA spokesperson Asst. Sec. Arnel De Mesa told a briefing that about 28,000 of the 160,000 available doses had been given on 29 farms, mostly in Central Luzon and CALABARZON. A news report of the briefing gives 27,937 doses, in Lobo and Lipa City (Batangas), Tarlac City, Tanay (Rizal), Paete (Laguna), and San Miguel, San Ildefonso, Santa Maria, Pulilan, Bulakan and Angat (Bulacan).

DA-BAI reported 1,994 doses given as of 20 November 2024, with more farms scheduled for vaccination.

Amends AC 05 and AC 08: vaccination is allowed in barangays with no active ASF cases for at least 40 days, or with negative ASF surveillance results, in red and pink zones.

28 days after vaccination, the pigs in Lobo, Batangas showed an average ELISA percentage blocking of 90%, a measure of their immune response. BAI announced it on Saturday, 5 October 2024.

The Secretary asked DA-BAI to include La Union, Quezon, Mindoro, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Cebu in the controlled testing of the first 150,000 doses. (The source doesn't say which Mindoro province.)

DA and DA-BAI began the controlled use of the Vietnam-developed live vaccine on two backyard farms in Lobo, Batangas.

Vaccination would be voluntary and supervised by DA-BAI, starting with eligible commercial and semi-commercial farms and clustered backyard farms, most likely in red and pink zones. About 150,000 of a planned 600,000 doses were expected by the third quarter of 2024.

The Food and Drug Administration issued a certificate of product registration under monitored release for the live attenuated ASF vaccine, valid until 11 July 2026, to be used only by DA-BAI and in eligible pig farms. A news report gives the date as 11 June 2024; DA-BAI's own presentation says 11 July.

Trials of an experimental ASF vaccine began on 10 commercial pig farms, with the pigs monitored by DA-BAI staff and veterinarians for 84 days. The vaccine came from a US company working with Zoetis Philippines.
